92 Camaro Speedometer Not Working
92 Camaro Speedometer Not Working
I have been trying to fix my speedometer for the past few months but still no luck. First I replaced the speed sensor attached to the transmission, no fix. I then removed the circuit board and replaced the capacitors and resistors, no fix. I am wondering where to start next. I've read on other forums about the Speed buffer box, but still don't quite understand what exactly it is and how to know if it needs replaced. Also I am not exactly sure how to test the wiring to make sure it isn't the problem. It's a 305 TBI just fyi. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 92 Camaro Speedometer Not Working
Welcome to TGO!
Yours being a TBI car the Speed Buffer should be behind the dash panel on the Pass. side kinda above the stereo. If you've replaced the speed sensor and that speed sensor is good than the speed buffer would be a logical next step to check, it is possible to get a brand new part and it not work. There are other possibilities that could be the cause? Is your car all stock or highly modified, there are gears in the trans that could possibly broken, the pin at the ECM that controls the speed buffer could be burnt out, the gauge itself could be bad. Your going to need to do some investigating with the wiring on your car so your going to need a either a digital or analog volt meter to check for continuity between points in the wiring and to check voltage.
Have to checked fuses, namely the Gauge fuse and the Crank fuse? Does the Volt meter and gas gauge work they appear to be fed from the same fuse.
Is there any movement at all from the speedo?
Are you getting any trouble codes? A code 24 has to do with the VSS
Any work to the car then it went out or just all the sudden it stopped working?
