ECM, Trouble Code, Spark Issues.
Hey all,
So there's multiple issues here, read along, sorry if I go astray.
I have an 88 Camaro 2.8 V6 I've had garaged for about 20 years. Just got around to bringing it out and resurrecting.
I used to start it every 3 years or so and bring it for a drive and a wash, but It's been a good 8 years since it's started now. I don't know why things have gone bad, I mothballed, sonic repellents, no signs of wire chewing anywhere. Garaged it and left it.
When initially troubleshooting I thought it was just the fuel pump, but appears there's more to it.
Disclaimers: Replaced all fluids, Fuel, Oil, Antifreeze, Gear oil, Brake Fluid
1) So I've replaced the fuel sending unit, (Along with other stuff I had to remove and just decided it needed a facelift, shocks, sway bar, lines, etc.) and it's now got the proper pressure up front. Tested old and it was not working. Although have 5 gallons in and gauge still shows empty; unclear why here. I see resistor threads here so i'll try that test later.
2) I'm not getting any spark. I've connected a plug directly to the coil, and nothing. Checked 12V to coil, and to distributor ICM from coil with engine on.
3) Ignition: Tested impedance on coil windings (And replaced with new, but reverted to original).
Checked for fluctuating .3 to 1.8 (round .8) AC Volts to the ECM from Camshaft Sensor good (replaced ICM for a few crank tests with new, no different, back to original).
Still no spark.
4) When jumping 5/6 to try to get ECM codes, the fan races and the fuel pump runs (disconnected Fuel relay for further spark tests).
5) When Jumping 6/12 I get nothing (Was suggested elsewhere but I don't believe this does anything).
---Disclaimer for 4 and 5 above: I thought the service engine soon light may be out, so I checked the bulb, there was none in it. Installed, and service engine light is continually on.
6) I swapped out another EMC, no change. (Both ECM's have both chips in them, got it from the junkyard back in 1992 or so. Cant remember if original or used one is in, and if I swapped out chips or not.)
So Still no spark even from the coil. I have the ECM in now that was running in it for 20K miles or so.
Again this was sitting 8+ years in a non-air controlled garage.Any thoughts?Should I be eyeballing my ECM first? Testing for proper 12V to it/voltages away. I haven't found a good instruction set for testing it yet.
