Damaged sensor, manual transmission

Hi guys,
I bought my Firebird with a broken sensor near the gearbox. I wonder what sensor this is? At first I think it's the speedometer sensor, but the more I search for the answer, the more I understand it's not the speedometer sensor. If it's not the speedometer, then what? I looked for answers in Haynes and the GM Manual Service, but found nothing. Google doesn't suggest anything either. Also, the speedometer doesn't work. I replaced the plastic gear in it, but the needle is stuck.
Do you know what this damaged sensor is for?
Firebird 1988 V6 2.8 manual transmission.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Damaged sensor, manual transmission

Most likely that was from the Engine Knock Sensor...

However, I can not tell for certain.

The picture isn't clear enough to tell, get us the wire color and maybe we'll be able to help....

Re: Damaged sensor, manual transmission

Good possibility it is the fan head temperature switch connector. Resides between 3 & 5 in the right cylinder head. Looks like a piece of the switch is still in the connector.

The 2.8's didn't run a knock sensor, so not that. And it should have a mechanical speedometer, along with the speedometer connector being a two prong affair.

As OrangeBird noted, the color of the wire would be helpful.

RBob.

Thank you guys, thank you RBob. In fact, the fan does not turn on, and the car began to overheat. I have to check it out. In the meantime, I will write about the color of the wires.

Re: Damaged sensor, manual transmission

Agreed that it looks like the fan switch that resides in the head. This sensor is common to break like that. Happened to many of us back in the day.
