Does anyone know how to remove the turn signal switch on a 85 firebird trans am? The one in the car is missing the brass pin that sounds the horn when pressed so I need to remove the old switch and install the new switch complete. It is manly the shroud that I believe I will have problems removing as I am not sure how it comes off.
Any help would be great and if anyone has pictures as well would be even more helpful.
Thanks in advanced.

What does the turn signal switch have to do with the horn?
I am not talking about the stalk I am referring to the switch that sits behind the steering wheel that makes the horn work

Take out the pivot screw for the moving half of it. Take out the 2 (I think... might be 3) mounting screws for the fixed part, unplug the electrical connectors on the column, attach about a 6' long piece of string or small wire or fishing line or something to them, remove the fixed half of the sw along with the harness and the fish line, use the fish line to pull the harness back in.
There may be other horn-related parts missing; a little plastic tube with a spring and a wire, and the other half of the tube with the connector that goes to the button out at the front. Might be A Good Idea to replace the cancel cam at the same time because that has the slip ring that the little brass brush makes contact with. In fact it might be best to replace every piece up under there, given that the switch (both halves including the brass brush), cancel cam, and wire assy, are no more than about $40 all together.

Thank you Sofakingdom, yes I have a new cancel cam as ours has snapped where the wire from the horn push button goes into it.Originally Posted by sofakingdom

You have to take off the steering wheel, the PITA clip, the plastic cover, and the park-lock plate with the notches. There's a spring under the plate that holds tension on it against the clip, so you have to push the plate in against the spring, to pry the clip out.
