Looking for the cranking wire in the steering column.
Have an 89 camaro, was TBI.
Previous owner fried ecu.
Also in Australia so been converted to right hand drive.
So wiring is all over the shop.
Doing a 305 - 350 swap and putting a holley sniper on.
Cleaning up the wiring.
Just looking for the wire that sends power when the key is in the cranking position.
For some reason the previous owner installed a push button start.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Here is the wiring diagram for your 1989 Camaro's start circuit. The wire you'll be looking for from the ignition switch will be yellow. Since this is a 1989 it did have VATS, my guess is that they didn't know about or couldn't find the VATS "Starter enable" relay and went with the pushbutton instead (the relay is located under the plastic panel on the car's left side, the panel where the hood release is). If you do find the relay, try jumping the large gauge yellow and dark green/white wires, and see if the key cranks the starter.
