Intermittent Starting Issues need advice
I’m dealing with intermittent starting issues on my LS swap due to a voltage drop at the starter. I recently removed a 90s anti-theft device that was tapped into the 10-gauge yellow wire. Removing it improved things, but I still encounter issues occasionally.
The problem likely stems from how I bypassed the anti-theft device. The original device had about 10 wires, and I crimped two of them together (probably 12 or 14 gauge) since they acted as the input and output for the device. Unfortunately, the yellow wire is very short, and I regret that it was ever cut. The voltage drop is likely caused by the three splices and the smaller gauge wiring.
Here’s where I’m stuck: should I try to replace/repair the yellow wire, which won’t be easy due to its short length and location, or should I add another relay?
1.) Replace the wire completely. Not sure how hard that would be to access or the proper terminals to make the repair wire. I imagine they are standard terminals.
2.) Try to splice existing wire with either one splice or at least 2 spalices with the correct sized wire.
3.) Wire a relay to a direct 12-volt source and trigger it off the starter relay
I’ve already tested the relay solution in my garage, and it eliminates the voltage drop.
Has anyone replaced this wire before? Know the correct terminals? Any tips?
Thanks
Bill

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues need advice
I had this issue before the LS Swap too! I assumed it was a crappy starter before the swap.
