Unlock Rear Hatch

I have a 1989 Firebird that I pulled the engine out of and I went to open the rear hatch and the key does not move. Does the hatch need power to be able too unlock it, I need to open it so I can get the the lug not lock in the rear side.

Re: Unlock Rear Hatch

The key lock for the hatch doesn't need power of any sort. Maybe the key was changed or the lock cylinder in seized up? Try some graphite or lock cylinder deicer?

Re: Unlock Rear Hatch

Chances something has broken in the lock tumbler & a piece of metal has blocked the turning of the lock by key. I had that specific thing happen
on the lock in my 1972 Buick GS. Had to replace the lock.

I have a button inside the car I will just need to figure out a way of getting power to the fuse box.

OMG thank you i sprayed it with WD40 and tried it side to side about 3 times and nothing, on the 4 th pressure to the right it opened. I thought some thing else was wrong when it slid in like normal.
