82-83 ECM / VSS Questions

Hi
I'm a new member on this site, and I've got a few questions for the electronics / ECM experts. Any help will be very appreciated.
OK, I have an 83 Z28 with an 86 LG4 305 and T5. I currently get 2 trouble codes (24 (VSS), and 32 (BARO)). Yesterday I began the hunt for these codes (which the car has shown ever since I bought it 3 yrs ago).
Voltage checks showed at the ECM that the VSS did not work, then I checked the gauge cluster and there is no yellow "VSS buffer"! Is this correct that 82/83 cars did not have VSS (with manual trans)?
Check of the BARO terminal showed 4.5V w/ ignition on, .9V with engine running. Then I realized someone has hooked the BARO sensor (the one above the heater hoses) to engine vacuum! Should the BARO sensor be hooked up to anything (aside from obviously the engine harness)?
Another thing is, the engine has a knock sensor, and ESC module, and they are hooked up. Not sure if they work. Also I am not sure if the previous owner also swapped in the 86 computer, I will contact the dealer to get the year off the computer.
THANKS for any help!
Jeff

the yellow "vss buffer" on, at least, my 83 was behind the dash on the driver side behind the fuse box. i was beginning to think my car didnt have one till i took out the dash. i hope thats what ur looking for.
