Ignition Switch problem, I think...

I've had a problem with starting my IROC for a few months now, but I haven't had a chance to investigate it.

Problem: The car won't start using my key unless its ice cold. Even when cold, I have to drop the wheel down to my knees and it would start (sometimes). Rarely, I could start it even when it was hot, but it was an intermittent problem and 99% of the time that wouldn't work. Sometimes if I turned the key really hard and fast, it would start as well. But again, 99% of the time this would not work.

I can start it up always with the remote starter without a hitch, but it would over-crank sometimes and I'd grind for a second or two.

So following the advice of my friends, I removed the panels from down below and started looking around for the bolts. It took a bit of rustling to get the panel out, but get this... Now the car starts up with the key and the remote starter will start the car perfectly without any grinding.

I'm guessing I may have a loose wire or connection since the car IS starting up perfectly now.

What does the ignition switch look like? Somebody recommended adjust the position and seeing if that would work. Problem is now that the car is starting without me doing anything, I can't really determine what the problem is.

Any ideas on what I should look for guys?

BTW, ignore that brown speaker wire looking dealie. I wired that up temporarily to run another cigarette lighter from it when I went to Vegas last year. I double fused it @ 5amps, so no worries there. I pulled it out while I had the stuff removed.

EDIT:

I saw that long metal piece that goes from the steering wheel all the way to the colum and to the ignition switch. I lubricated that pretty well and cleaned out that general area with eletrical contact cleaner.

The car is still starting pefectly fine now..

Oh yeah... If it means anything, after the car is started and I turn the key it WILL crank again and grind. I know that this could cause problems of course, but I just wanted to test out all different variables.

I dunno if that helps with the diagnosis. For the time being, I put everything back together. If you guys have any suggestions, it would be great.
