I have an 85 Iroc 305 TPI. My amp guage is going way up to +18, My check engine light comes on, my head lights, dash lights have never been so bright and all my guages are going sky high. The altenator was tested and they say it is fine. I have a 108amp alt. Anyone have any clues where to start looking for a short/ground or what ever?

I'd (personally) replace the alternator anyways or have it testest a few other places. The alternator regulates voltage by itself. I wouldn't swear by any parts store testing it on the spot (but, that's just me & bad exp. w/that sort of stuff)

 

ok, Ive been tinkering and I have noticed that this over charging occurs once the car gets hot Ive taken the altenator to 3 places and it checked out as good. any ideas where to start
