timing lights (dumb ?)
I believe thats to check and see what the advance on the timing is (old style mechanincal or vacuum advance), with our cars I don't think you need it so just set it to zero. make sure you disconnect the wire to the computer when setting the timing so the computer doesn't fight you while doing it.

The dial on the back of the timing light allows you to read timing advance beyond the 12 degress, or so, indicated on the timing mark on the motor - whih is handy if you don't have timing tape on the dampner, or a fully marked aftermarket dampener. You turn the dial until the mark lines up with zero degrees & then read the dial for timing advance.
