Gauge question

Not sure if this is the right board--but my friend has a 90 or 91 RS Camaro--we swapped out the gauge cluster from a 92 RS--same exact car--motor-everything! Now the problem-his tach is off around 500-700 rpm's-too high. When I pulled out the old one I noticed 2 sets of pins behind the cluster(both sets)one set (old) has less pins then the newer cluster-does anyone know what would cause the tach to be off? Pins maybe?I'm a bird guy so I'm lost! I think that's the only gauge that's off.

was one of them a automatic and the other a manual? cars with an auto tranny arnt wired for the shift light (that 1 wire).. there are also like 4 wires that are for unused bulbs.. a couple of them may not have been wired up.. as for the tach being off.. it shouldnt be.. the needle may be out of alignment? thats the nest i can think of for that..
