Trans-Am Headlight switch

I have a 86 TA the problem is with the headlights. if you rock the switch into the on position as normal, the lights turn on but do not flip up. to get the lights to flip up you need to s l o w l y rock the switch in to the on position (posible even stoping in the middle when the lights start to rotate) if you do it that way, the turn on and flip up every time. I tried to replace the headlight switch, but the new one does the same thing... is there a relay somewhere that is burning out? or has anyone else had this problem? the repair manual makes no mention of the headlight motors or related wiring. just my luck... Thanks for the help!

Jim

on 86' birds, there is an isolation relay and two actuator relays (one lh side, other rh side).

Isolation Relay: RH Front Of Engine Compartment
Actuator Relay (LH): LH Front Of Engine Compartment On Inner Fender
Actuator Relay (RH): RH Front Of Engine Compartment On Inner Fender

If you get frustrated and want to safely drive the car during nighttime, manually raise the headlamps and disconnect the motor plug at each headlight. Headlamps will remain in up position permanetly.

headlight switch

Thanks for the info, Just for clearification, "front" = firewall or radiator support? "left" = passengers side? I've heard it described both ways depending if the person was sitting in the car or looking under the hood...

thanks,
