Derale fan switch installation

I installed an adjustable derale fan switch in my car this weekend.. The switch was working fine, until i noticed the car was going past the specified turn on temp and the fan was not coming on. I check the circuit and discovered that the inline fuse to the fan was blown. It came with a 25 amp fuse, and I replaced it with another 25 amp, and it is working fine again. I am concerned as to why it blew in the first place, and if it will happen again. What should I check, and any reasons why it would have blown? Should I use a 30 amp instead? The relay is wired directly to the battery with a thermostatic sensor in the radiator. I have the power for the relay / fan coming off the + side of the battery from a wire that splits between the foglights and the fan relay. The foglights are 55w each and they are seperately fused from the fan relay. The power wire is split before the fan relay, and powers both the fan relay and the foglight relay. What should I check?
Thanks!
