altenator wiring help

Car: 1986 Ta/Firebird
Engine: 305 0.30 over(310ci)'dyno'd @10:6.1 cr. , 462 heads,Ported. edelbrock eps manifold,2701 cam,1406 carb.Headman Headers.
Transmission: 5 Speed
altenator wiring help
Just got an 86 trans am and the charging system seems to be wrong.the altenator sparks and drains battery.I need some easy to understand info.where the solenoid hooks on there is a R and an s.
the R is empty the S of course goes to switch thats ok.
the R is what?also on the 2 wire altenator i have 1 and 2 and Bat.
something is missing on the R so i believe my problem is there.where does R hook up to ????soomewhere on the altenator??
geese..someone wired this thing and really messed it up..
Can anyone clear this up for me?
