Guage swap

I'm tired of the plain crappy guages in my 84 T/A. What do I need to do to swap in 89 or newer guages. I realize I have a cable driven speedo and I think GM went to electronic in I think 87? Would it be possible to install an aftermarket 140+ cable driven speedo and use the rest of the newer guage cluster? Also the gas and temp are in different locations on the newer guages. Thanx in advance!

I have an 89 2.8 F-body and mine is cable driven, needing to get electric because of my swap to 350.

There is a load of hell if you ask me. I have electric and it doesnt work very well. If you go 5 mph it reads 40 then kills the engine at 120.
