are the aluminum drive shafts really strong enough? and does it really make that much difference for spinning up your motor.

 

Yes, they are made by the Spicer Axle Division of Dana Corp and are made from 6061-T6 aluminum with forged yokes. Plus they are much lighter and don't rust...
