If I were to sell my engine.... (need some feedback)

Hey guys, I'm considering going in a slightly different direction with my GTA, & part of that decision involves deciding whether to sell my L98. I'd appreciate it if some of you guys could give me an idea of what I might be able to get for it. Here are the specs:
  • 1989 L98, stock bottom end (AFAIK);
  • 82,xxx miles;
  • Iron L98 heads, milled .005" (heads were slightly warped when I bought the car, fixed now) While they were off, I had them do some basic porting & 3-angle valve job;
  • StealthRam intake w/ all of the braided lines, fittings etc. needed for installation;
  • 24# injectors;
  • SLP stainless steel 1.75" headers, Jet-Hot coated;
  • SLP Y-pipe, also Jet-Hot coated;
  • Headers include Stage-8 locking header bolts & Earl's Pressure-Master gaskets (I've never had to even look at my headers since I installed 'em in 2000);
  • MSD-6AL ignition box with plug-in harness connector & variable RPM dial (instead of the little "pills" normally used);
  • New, stock-replacement distributor in approx. 2000;
  • ... and probably some other stuff that I'm not remembering right now. (If curious, you can check my vbGarage, there's a good chance that it has most of what I have listed...)

It runs both smooth & strong right now, in fact I was able to walk past a buddy's GTA last year at a T&T night, before I added the HSR. I'd post the actual 1/4 time, but the 7500' DA that night (at Bandimere) makes it a bit painful.

Also - this car has been my "nice-weather, weekend toy" for the last 10 yrs or so, & has always (AFAICT) been adult-owned & garaged. There was a fairly brief period when it was my DD (about 15-18 months), but even then it's always gotten regular oil & fluid changes, so the engine should still have a LOT of life left in it. Rarely ever raced, & 90% of that has been at the track.

Two fairly important things to note - first, this is all theoretical at this point, I'm still trying to decide what I want to do. And second, I am NOT interested in selling any of this separately. If I do it, I'd want to sell it as a complete, well-running "pull-out" engine that could be dropped right into another 3rdgen in a weekend - I just have no idea what a fair price would be...

Hell, since I'm posting this, I might as well get feedback on the heads I have as well. What would be a fair price for a set of never-installed pre-Elim. AFR 195s set up for L98s? These are:
  • angle-plug heads,
  • intake ports are 100% CNC'd;
  • have both 3/8" and 7/16" rocker studs;
  • have all of the provisions for temp sensors, etc,
  • have 70cc (or was it 72cc?) chambers,
  • can accommodate either center-bolt or perimeter-bolt valve covers;

Like I said, they've never been installed, as I've been saving up parts for a 383 build - but if I decide not to build the 383, what could I realistically get for the complete engine & the heads???

Thanks all.

Hey - sorry to hi-jack but you were interested in a JAW (Wideband controller). I PM you but I have not got a response.

A basically stock L98 nearing 100k miles is not worth too much. If you got $400 for it as a long block I'd say you did well. I can get a complete 350 roller motor around the 100k mark for a lot less than that.

As for the stealth ram and aftermarket parts, check ebay for what they go for typically.

Re: If I were to sell my engine.... (need some feedback)

Well, again, I'm really not wanting to part it out, I'm hoping to get an idea of what a fair price would be for the combo as a whole. (Fair to me, & fair to the buyer as well.)

And as far as the "nearing 100k" goes, that's not quite the bogeyman that it was say, 20 or 25 years ago. With EFI there's significantly less "ring wash" than there was in carbureted engines, so the bores tend to not wear as quickly. Based on what I've read here on TGO, finding a decent-running SBC with 150k on it isn't too remarkable, & I'm fairly sure that we've got a couple here who are on (or nearing) their 2nd go-round...

Anyway, I apologize, that's a distraction from the main intent of the thread. If I were to sell this engine as a whole, what do you guys think would be a reasonable ballpark figure to ask for it??

(Thanks to all who've chimed in...)

Yeah the rings wash less but the bearings wear the same. They will go 200k but I'm sure not making the same hp as day one. You asked for value. I treat 100k engines as rebuilders, or toss it in a daily driver. You will make more money parting the engine on ebay and selling the stealth ram separately.
