For sale or trade: Flywheels.

I have two flywheels, one is for an automatic, the other is for a manual.

The automatic flywheel is a 153 tooth, for a V-8 car. It is about a year old, just took it out because I am swapping to manual. No cracks, the teeth are fine.

$30 shipped for it? Not sure what to ask as I don't remember what I paid really..

The other is for a manual, 153 tooth, BRAND NEW RING GEAR. Just had it installed, also JUST had the flywheel turned.

Reason for selling? It didn't fit my car. It's for a V-6, the bolt pattern is the small one.

I want atleast $80 shipped for it, I have $70 in getting it freshly turned and having the ring gear installed.

What I am looking for:

I need a bell-housing for a T-5 and V-8. The bell-housing I have bolts up to my 305, but the starter will not go into place, it hits on the bell-housing. I think that means it's for the V-6? Not really sure, maybe someone can help me out.. if it should be right, then tell me what do I need to do?

No pictures right now, I should be able to get some tomorrow night as these are down at the shop and I won't be there at all today.

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

v-6 housing wont bolt to a v-8

only unless it is a rear wheel drive 3.8L or 200ci one or is from an old 1960's GMC v-6,

or is a 4.3L one

2.8L and other v-6 are smaller and wrong shape and pattern(60 degree)

v-8 and other v-6 are 90 degree

sometimes you have to do some grinding to make the nose fit into the housing on the smaller clutch diameter housings

what is the casting number of the housing you have ?

is it aluminum or is it iron ?

auto = flexplate

manual= flywheel

staggered bolt starter nose pattern= 168 tooth 14"

straight across bolts = 153 tooth 12.5"

do not shim the starter

if shims are needed then you have the wrong wheel or plate and starter nose combination

good luck!

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

I would have to get the casting number tomorrow. Didn't go tonight. Camera batteries were dead anyway.

But, it's aluminum I know that.

I have a mini starter on there now, I ordered a regular starter for it.. my holes are straight across if I remember right.. I need to double check though. I for sure have a 153 tooth flywheel on it, or did anyway..

How much grinding will I need to do? Hopefully not a whole lot, I don't want to weaken the housing.

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

Your starter problem is the fact that the V8 starter for the automatic trans has a bigger nosecone. All you need to do is go to the parts store and get a starter for a 5.0, manual trans application. You could probably even use the one you have as a core. Most parts stores don't pay enough attention to notice the difference. The manual and auto starters have different part numbers. A lot of guys just grind down the nose on the auto starter, but as cheap as replacement starters are, I'd recommend just getting the right one. Btw, if you wanted to upgrade, you could always get a 93-94, LT1 starter. They bolt right up, they're lighter, and they're gear reduction just like a mini starter. The nosecone on them fits the auto or manual trans cars too.

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

I had a mini starter on the car. I went to NAPA and got a regular starter and I now have no issues.. bellhousing bolts right up.

Thought about selling the mini starter, but I think I might keep it.

Everything fits, its just a matter of putting it together now.. hopefully drive it by this weekend.

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

Ok, I need a few parts..

I need a torque arm mount for the T-5, and I need a speedo gear + housing.

The tranni has the blue gear in it, and I have the 145mph speedo so whatever gear would work with that is what I need.

Willing to do a trade + cash from whichever person has the part of least value.. I NEED these parts guys, help me out, please!

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

Alright guys, the mini starter is up for trade also.

I need to get this torque arm mount for the T-5, NONE of the j-yard here in town want to help me out, and no one at the parts places hardly knows what to look for.

PLEASE help me get this swap done.

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

We need to know what rearend ratio you have to be able to tell you which driven speedo gear you're going to need. Rim and tire size is helpful too. As far as the torque arm mount goes, I've been able to use the V6 T5 mount on the V8 setups. They're tons easier to find in the junkyards compared to the V8 one. If you do manage to find one, make sure to pay attention to which way the "lips" on the end of the torque arm face in the bushing as compared the torque arm on your car. I had to grab the torque arm from the V6 car that I got the mount off of since my 700r4 arm had the lips facing the wrong direction for the T5 mount/bushing. If you can figure out your rear ratio, just go to the "T5 speedo info" sticky at the top of the page to figure out which driven gear to use.

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

Well, I have no idea what the rear gear is. It should be stock, but it's a 25 year old car and I'm not the first owner.

I currently am running 245/60R15's on the back. I plan to be getting 18's, but that is way later down the road. I want to switch it to like a 245/50R15 but I don't think that size is even made.

As far as the junkyards, they have NOTHING here. No Camaros at all, not sure if that's a good thing or not.. I need parts dammit!

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

No one has anything?

I wish I could edit the title and first post to change the parts around a little so that way it would gain the interest of people who might have these parts..

Re: For sale or trade: Flywheels.

I'm pretty sure I've got an extra V6 t/a mount out in the garage somewhere. If you're interested in it, I should be able to dig it up without too much trouble. Both the mounts I have are the type that the t/a lips face towards the tranny/driveshaft. If you need the correct t/a, I have one of those too. I was going to use it on mine, but I picked up a Spohn t/a setup a couple of weeks ago, so it's just taking up space now. Oh yeah, I've also got a brand new Energy Suspension t/a bushing to go with the mount. Are you running a cable driven type speedo? If you are, the commonly available TH350 style speedo bullet and gears work just fine in a T5. You can get the gear and the bullet insert off ebay for about $25. The only thing that has to be from a T5 trans is the retainer bracket that holds the speedo drive in the tailshaft housing. I have an extra one of those too. If you're interested in any of this stuff, just send me a PM. Pat.
