A friend at work is getting out of drag racing. Actually, he didn't race last year, couldn't afford it. The 350 engine is .020 over, 11 to 1 compression, heads have alot of money in them (I don't know specifics on those), cam has 562 lift. He was running this in an 80 Malibu wagon with a turbo 350, 3500 stall converter and 4:88 gears. Ran 12.60's. He's keeping the 750 vac Holley and the distributor. Looking for $1,500 for just the motor. Located in Delton, MI. and still in the car so you can hear it run. PLEASE send me your email address and I will forward it on to him to answer more questions about the motor. He said the trans had a manual reverse valve body installed and the trans may be available too but without the torque converter.
I heard this engine run a few years ago and it sounded wicked.

The heads are Pro Top Line and have 2.02/1.60 stainless valves and the cam is a 560 lift.

will that run on pump gas?
I will ask. At 11 to 1 compression though I'm doubting it.

it should run on 92/93 octane.. if it runs 12.60 on race gas, thats just sad.. times better be on true street tires and not slicks..
from the sound of this combo, it should be in the upper 11's..

so $1500 for the long block?
Yes minus carb and dizzy. Intake is included though. As far as fuel, he ran strictly racing fuel in it. The times were run with 9" slicks and that wagon is heavy, about 4000lbs. PM for his phone number and you can ask him all the questions.

It's ok, i would be too worried about it running on 93 to put it in a street car.
Yes, you would probably have to detune it a bit and that would defeat the purpose of the parts. He told me the heads flowed 185cfm and are 64cc heads. The heads alone had $1700.00 put into them. The engine has 6" h-beam rods and a generic aluminum intake. The distributor was set up for 36 degrees total advance. The engine is still in the car but the body belongs to his uncle and he has to return it if he's done racing.
This engine could be bought and parted out and you'd make money on it.

the heads should flow 285, not 185.. 185 is very very weak.. but for exhaust side, 185 is not bad..
i retract my statement about being slow.. 12.6 at 4000lbs is about what i would be running with my motor, had my car been 4000lbs..
just for fun, the motor would probably run faster with a mix of race gas and pump.. my friend runs 12:1 with 25% race gas and 75% 92 octane.. i've also heard of cars slowing down while running straight 100 octane..

Has an Isky solid cam. He got it the car out and started it up and ran it down the road and back. Said when he hit second gear it almost turned the car around in the road. Could be made to run on the street with a bit of tinkering.
