My buddy has his '88 firebird that he wants me to do a 5 speed tranny swap to. Car runs and drives, and if you want, I can give you a test ride to see how well it works. Nothing wrong with the transmission, he preferred a manual car, but finding a reasonably priced, good body car isn't easy in upstate new york.

He was told some jazz from the guy he got the car from about the transmission having a shift kit and a corvette servo installed at the same time the car received an LSD and 3.42 gear set. The rear does have an LSD and 3.42s, but I'm making no guarantees, as I haven't opened it up at all. Included will be brake pedal, shifter with shifter bracket, and the steering column cable and tranny shift cable, along with TV detent cable, cooler lines, and fill tube and dip stick. Looking for $300, half up front/half on delivery and will do contract for delivery for customer reassurance. Will fit Firebird, Camaro and some applications you will just need to change the tail shaft.

Transmission has an electronic VSS (drive/driven should be set up for 2.73 as they never corrected it to a 3.42 set), and it's the 87+ design so better internals than the older transmissions (slightly stronger than pre-87 models). Will take trade for 5 speed plus a lil cash, but prefer straight up sale. Thanks for looking.

FWIW, the '87 and up does have stronger internals, but at least the 87 also has a wierd setup with a secondary valve body that most people shy away from...

 

well this is '88, not that I know much of internals, i try to stay away from autos, but i knew in '87 they did something to the internals making them slightly better along with the WC-T5s around the same time. But just to re-affirm, this is an '88 unit.
