For sale is the LB9/5spd combo out of my ’91 Trans Am. I took the car on vacation to Gatlinburg TN 2 weeks ago and during a storm a tree fell over and smashed the car. With my dabbling in road racing my IROC, and with a baby on the way, I don’t have the time to fix it, or swap the drivetrain into another car, so I bought a beautiful ’89 GTA for my daily and I’m parting my ’91 TA out.

The engine is a stock LB9 with F-body LT1 cam. It was rebuilt 40k miles ago, 90% highway miles from my commuting to work. It has received valvoline oil changes religiously every 3k miles. I used a Federal Mogul rebuild kit to freshen the engine. It is still standard bore, rod, and main diameters as well. With my custom tune it got 22-24mpg in mixed driving and got 26-27mpg on the highway and does require premium fuel (which I could change if needed) . the engine also has brand new injectors, coolant temp sensor, map sensor and O2 sensor.

The trans was rebuilt with new synchros and bearings 20k miles ago, again highway miles. The clutch has 40k on it from when the engine was rebuilt. I run redline synthetic fluid and the trans operates perfectly.

I want to stress this is a COMPLETE combo ideal for you RS and Firebird guys out there. The engine, Speed Density wire harness, ECM with my custom tune, trans, clutch, custom Y-pipe and 3” cat all are included in the package. The T5 is out of a late 80s S-10 with the 3.76 1st gear, this combo ROCKED with my 2.73 geared TA. It would really get up and go off the line, then it would idle down and only sip the fuel on the highway in 5th gear. The car also has an aluminum driveshaft and a posi drum 2.73 rear that I’ll be selling as well. The posi works pretty well unless you really turn hard and unload the inside tire. Car and rear axle have 145k miles.
I’m open to any questions you guys have. I have purposely left the engine and trans in the car and operable, so those of you guys that are local can come drive the car and see how well it runs for yourself.
I’d like to get $1200 bux out of the engine, trans, clutch, harness, ECM, sensors, custom tune, y-pipe and cat. I think that’s a really fair price for the time, money, and work I have invested. This was an AWESOME combo for a daily driver with some power. I’m also open to offers because frankly, I do need to get rid of this stuff so I have room in my garage again.

I’m also parting the rest of the car out for those interested. The car has good stuff listed below.
Tail lights SOLD
Dash pad SOLD
cup holders and rear view mirror SOLD
AL driveshaft with new U-joints. SOLD
Good door panels $70ea
Rebuilt headlight motors $75 each for the complete assemblies.
Front and rear bumper covers $100 each
Gages $25 for the whole gage assembly
Door and body ground effects $100 per side OBO
lower front ground effects are damaged but savable $50 each OBO
Intact fog and turn signal lights, work properly $75 OBO for the pair.
All seats are in good condition but have wear spots and small tears and should be recovered to be perfect. Front pair for $50, rear seat back and cushions $40
Gray interior plastics from the rear seats forward are OK still
padded 90-92 under dash panel $25
airbag from steering wheel $75 OBO

All other miscellaneous items that I’ve forgotten, just ask. I'll get more pix up on request. I have been busy lately and haven't gotten my pix uploaded but wanted to get this thread going so I can get rid of some of this stuff.

They should fit any 82-92 firebird as far as I know.

Here they are when they were on the car.

91-92 tail lights with NO DELAMINATION. One mount post is broken off the back from the tree pushing the quarter panel down, but that could be re-attached easily. There are NO external scratches or damage. If people are interested I'll post pictures. $150 OBO
Dash pad (no cracks, perfect condition!) $100

I WOULD LIKE THE LIGHTS AND DASH PAD
HOW MUCH IS SHIPPING

THANKS

PM me your e-mail address so I can send you pix. My internet connection is slow so e-mailing them will be much easier.

1982MSETA, you are #2 for these if 1BADZ28SD decides not to buy them.

Quote: Would you be willing to seperate the serpentine drive brackets and pulleys from the engine? If so how much?
I'd rather not separate the engine right now. This is the perfect combo for someone to just swap in and have great power, economy, and reliability. I did a LOT of work on this combo and on the tune. The the tune, wiring, ECM, exhaust trans and everything comes with it too. If no one buys the whole setup then I'll part it farther and let you know.

Quote: How much for the A/C components from the firewall forward?
I had retrofitted this car to R134a with a new compressor, dryer, and condenser. I swapped all that to the '89 GTA I just bought. I do however have all the original stuff off the 89 GTA. Let me know what parts you want, I'll be honest, I'm not sure it will be worth it to ship the compressor it is very heavy. I'll sell the whole setup for $75 if you pay shipping.

If you decide to part the engine let me know. Also might be interested in the carpet, front seats(depending on shipping), fog lights(if they fit an 86 TA), and gas tank with FI pump(if even possible to ship???)

I'll only e-mail pix because my connection is slow and photobucket takes forever. They are in perfect condition and they are gray. The drivers side was new from hawks that I dyed gray and it matches perfectly. $20 each on the cupholders.

Wheels were sold locally last night

The carpet is bad. Shipping on seats will cost more than these are worth frankly. I'm keeping the fuel tank and pump for my other thirdgens. The 91 fog lights won't fit your '86.

Quote: What condition is the front bumper cover? Thanks
Front bumper cover is in good shape. needs paint and has 2 holes where the license place bracket was. $50

Quote: The main parts I'm after is the box on the firewall and the lines.
The lines are ready to ship. The box is there and in good shape but I don't have it off yet. I'd do $40OBO for that stuff, not really sure what it's worth. ARe you in a hurry, I'm going to need time to get the box off. The engine is still in the car and running with hopes that someone will buy it complete.

Bring your time and money and we'll get to work. The passenger quarter is buckled and the doors don't shut properly anymore. THe door gaps are all messed up too. The car took a harder hit than it appears in the pix....

$50 shipped sounds good to me. I'll be pulling that stuff this weekend hopefully. Please do me a favor and send me a PM outlining that. I'm tracking the final sales in my PMs.

PM me your zip and I'll get a shipping quote and go from there, these are VERY easy to sell locally and I may lean towards that becaue you're not getting a good value if you have to pay $50 in shipping.

This car is NOT on craigslist YET but will be soon probably a week or so. I wanted to give you guys the first shot at everything. I'd like to get a few more nibbles on the engine and trans combo. I'm shocked that no one has been interested.

Yes I have the stock 32mm front and 22mm rear. (I'll have to double check the rear that is from memory. $50 for both of them. PM me your zip code and I'll get you a shipping quote. These are fairly heavy,so if shipping is very far it will get expensive.

Quote: How bad is the carpert?
The front passenger and driver carpet is brown and completely matted down. I've tried everything but powerwashing and it won't come up. With floor mats in it doesn't look too bad, but not something I'd sell as a pristine example. The rear cargo area is in real nice shape. Let me know if you're interested

Map poket is perfect $25
console lid is slightly warped but not cut or torn. $40

Thanks Don!

Any takers on the engine and trans? I am floored that there has not been any interest. It's going to craigslist later this week if there is no interest here. I really don't want to part it out, I've got a lot of time in building and tuning the combination and it would be a shame to split it up. This truly is the PERFECT combo for folks out there with 2.77 or 2.73 gears, I know there are tons of RS/Firebird/IROC guys that could use this setup.

Ok so the long block sold locally so now I'm parting out the rest of the engine.

Trans and clutch $375 OBO (sale pending)
Bellhousing $75 OBO
Speed Density wire harness $75 OBO
Speed Density ECM WITH CHIP $150 OBO
TPI setup with injectors but no sensors $275 OBO
Distributor $35
Complete serpentine belt setup (let me know if you need AC compressor water pump and smog pump) $100 OBO

I've had lots of people interested in this and I don't really know anymore who was asking first, so I'm going to start from scratch. First come first served on all the parts listed above.

I'm not exactly sure what all this stuff is worth guys so make offers, I'm GOING to sell all of this and I'd rather it stay in the community.
