TPiS / AFR Cylinder Heads - New

New, the AFR heads we are now offering, have our port design CNC cut by AFR into their head. We did up a great set of heads and sent them to AFR. We then paid them to write a program for the CNC to incorporate our port design into their head. AFR even cuts our TPiS logo into the side of each head. On a recent 402ci LT1 motor we built we got 20 more h.p. over the stock AFR's we used to sell.

This joint venture between TPIS and Air flow Research will produce more torque and high end RPM power, then we could get out of our old air flow castings. These take advantage of the heavy duty AFR casting and our perfected CNC port design. They have 2.02 stainless steel intake and 1.65 stainless steel exhaust valves, .600 lift springs, Titanium retainers and guide plates.

54cc chamber will help increase compression, while having a tight quench area. The intake ports are 187cc when were done with them. Similar to their pricier "competition port" heads.
They feature 2.02 x 1.60 stainless steel valves, angle plugs and 54cc chambers.

They come complete with springs and retainers set up for the cam of your choice. They are available for the L98 as well as the LT-1. If you are going to run nitrous or a blower, these are the heads for you. They have six pounds more aluminum in them than the stock heads, which means a better gasket seal when you really have your foot in it.

Re: NEW TPiS / AFR L98 Cylinder Heads
How well would they work with a 377 sbc with 9.0 compression and a 76mm turbo

Just curious. You say the heads are setup with angle plugs, won't that interfere with the headers on the L98 engines?

I will be the first to admit that I'm no turbo guru and I had purchased these heads to run on an NA 383 motor. The heads will hold great under boost especially with the 3/4" thick deck but these heads do how ever have 54CC chambers which might increase your compression ratio depending on what you are currently running to gauge your 9.0 compression.

Depends on what type of headers you are running. If you have a set of headers for straight plugs then yes you will run into issues. You have a set of headers for angle plugs then you shouldn't have any issues. With that being said, it is very hard to determine all the combination of angle plug heads and headers. Hopefully that answers your question

Are you running these headers on your stock angle plug heads?

Currently I am running these headers on the stock L98 cylinder heads but wanting to upgrade soon as I also have the SLP T-RAM almost ready.

If you are running your headers on stock L98 angle plug heads, then your headers should fit these heads. Have you seen the TPiS MiniRam that I have for sale as well? These heads and that intake would make for a killer upgrade!

Titanium Retainers/Seats
Just curious.. Titanium Seats?
and what cam are they set up for "of your choice"?

Looks decent from the description, slightly smaller runner volume than the 195, nice smaller chamber, flow numbers are not too bad either considering the ports are smaller.
Might be a nice run if your build is limited in rev capability or is not a huge displacement. Assuming that's why it states for L98-type builds

I'll get in contact with TPiS as they allowed me to use their description for the part number and provided additional information. I imagine they are probably hardened steel seats and if that is the case I'll update. Also, the cam I was going to run was .520" lift, 226 duration, but the heads can support up to .600" lift.

Re: NEW TPiS / AFR L98 Cylinder Heads
How old are these heads? I'm guessing these are the pre eliminator series is that right? Why don't you run them?

Re: NEW TPiS / AFR L98 Cylinder Heads
I bought these in 2010, brand new. You are correct that these heads a pre afr eliminator series heads. I never ran these because I didn't get to anything beyond the part collection stage in my motor build process of my IROC before needing to sell it. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
