Re: 89-92 700R4 Aluminum Driveshaft

Just some general info: GM's thirdgen alum shaft (RPO JG1) has its part number (10085375) attached on a metal label near the rear U. The shaft will fit both 700R4's and T-5's, among others. I used to ship them in carpet tubes.

Was there a difference from 82-88? I heard 89-92 were balanced for 150mph, the 82-88 was balanced for 120 or something. So 89-92 will have that specific part number?

IIRC, 89 was the first year of the alum shaft. The thirdgen alum shaft will have the above part number.

I saw the pictures rob, very nice! would you tell me the part number on it? Also is the aluminum able to be sanded to get the surface rust off?

Since the shaft is alum, there won't be any rust (perhaps some on the yokes). The alum can, however, be highly polished. I always used Eagle One: Original Never-Dull Wadding Polish.

BTW, not much can go wrong when buying a shaft. Make sure that it's not bent, of course, and that all the balance weights are in place. It'll be obvious if one is missing. Also, should you be unaware, the LS1 shaft will fit as well.

Sorry, no info. In all but high-power race applications, I doubt that it matters.
