I did this a few years ago with just a cut to match sheet metal piece. I couldnt find a bought unit either

I've considered that but I need heat in my car though. I'm freezing like hell. If I can't find someone to help me out here or ebay I'll just buy a new shell at hawks for 150 and get the cage and motor at advance auto.

Just modify your old box with fiberglass. That's what I'm doing.
