Need speedometer housing for 700R4

Hi, I know I posted this request a few weeks ago but somehow it never got posted. Gonna try again. Looking for the "electric" speedometer housing for the 1987 700R4 transmission. See photo below.

Thanks in advance,

Louis

Re: Need speedometer housing for 700R4

Be advised:

These things are gear ratio (or speedo gear ) specific. As you can see in this pic the sensor you will need will depend on Driven gear that needs to be mounted on it. Also remember that electric speedo gears are NOT the same as cable gears.

This type of sensor was used in 84-86 Berlinetta, (most 86 +)87-89 Firebird and some mid-late 80's Vetts. Getting harder and harder to find them as time goes by. Not as "rare"as the T5 version - but certainly not a common part.

Never heard of them being speedo gear specific. Had no issues when I changed to rear gear and speedo gears for 3.73 and 4.10.

What would 40 & 45 mean? Something to do with drive/driven gear tooth count? Maybe its a mold number for the plastic housing??

Re: Need speedometer housing for 700R4

Hi Guys, thanks for the response. First of all let me explain that my unit does work, however its leaking trans fluid out of the electrical plug. As far as I know the units are the same, only the plastic gear is changed for various options. The gear I have is the green one and I believe it has either 32 or 38 teeth. Car is in storage now, so I cant get the exact photo or gear count.

Hi Trader,

these are valid numbers and I thank you for the info. Will place an order for the correct one.

I believe I'm correct , trader ? you might want to cross reference at a delco.com the sc12 is a acdelco 213-197. I thought 87 was cable drive to a ip vss and 88 or maybe it was 89 the vss was in the trans.
I believe the listed are 4K ppm and use a vss buffer mounted on the ecm bracket.

Re: Need speedometer housing for 700R4

If you are looking for one, I have an extra one (p/n: 10456089) that is new, still in original box. I accidentally bought the wrong one but waited too long before I tried to return it. It was on my car for literally one trip around the block. PM me if you want it.
