i am swapping an 87 305 cc q-jet into a 89 2.8, i have a few ?'s to ask ......

1, being is the 89 was FI , if i cut my power to my pump in the tank will i be able to run the lines? ( i have a donor car w/all componets to swap anything with) i have the lines out of the 87 ,

2, with my front suspension, do i need to change my sway bar bolting plate? or anything else with it?

3, what wires (and computer componets do i need to switch), if any

The '87 should have an electric fuel pump in the tank as well. But, it may be a lower pressure variety, so you should consider changing out the whole thing (swapping tanks would be easiest).

The V8 sway bar is probably heavier than the V6 (that was the case between my two cars), but the bolt holes in the frame are identical. While you're under there, look for bolt-on frame braces - my V8 car had a couple that weren't on the V6 car.

The big thing will be moving the front engine mounts from the rear of the crossmember to the front, because the nuts on the bolts are inside the crossmember, and a bear to get at unless you drop the A-arms (which is harder to do when you don't have the engine weight on the car - classic Catch-22). The front springs also have to be changed (if you want a decent ride and handling), which requires the A-arms to be dropped, but again, there's that engine-weight-thing (a spring compressor might help resolve that issue so you can do the mounts and springs at the same time, with the engines out).

Basically, you need to replace all of the under-hood wiring except the lights and cruise control. But, it isn't that big of a deal. Label everything as you take both cars apart, disconnect everything where it attaches to the engine/tranny, unbolt sensors from the firewall rather than unhook them from the harness, lay the harness off to the side while you take the engine out, and replace the harness while the engine is out (more room to work that way). The ECMs and tachs will have to be swapped, too.

Don't know if you've considered this (or have to), but an '87 carb isn't emissions legal in an '89 chassis. May not be an issue today, but do you know where you'll be living next year, or 5 years from now?
