diffence in blocks (85 monte 305)
Ok here is the deal, I can get this engine, its a 305 outta a 85' monte Carlo SS. It has less than 10k on a rebuild, and it doesn't leak or anything. I can get it for 100bucks. My dad has 4cyl, iron duke camaro. How hard would it be to switch this engine inplace of the 4 cyl. Somethings i know, are like the 4 cyl has a belt driven fan, and the V8 would require a electric fans. Also the motor mounts would need to be changed. I am ultimatly looking for a T56 to drop in with it also, so that means a new drive shaft, and new cross member. Now for some questions.
#1. What are the differences in the blocks from a 85 monte SS vs. the Camaro blocks.
#2. What all else is involved in swapping over. Hopefully I could find a beat up donor car, like an iroc or such, and use the tpi, and fans and such, but like what other parts will i need?

The blocks themselves are the same, as far as bolting it into the car goes, anyway. I believe exhaust manifolds are different between Montes & 3rd gens, though.
The swap is the same as you'd go through for a V6 to V8 swap, which is discussed often. Look through the posts on this forum, you'll find the info.
A donor car is the best way to go, since there are a bunch of parts to swap. Going TPI would be more difficult, but again, donor car is the only sane way to approach it.
You don't "need" electric radiator fan for a V8, but that's what most of the later years had.
If you can get all the engine/car/donor for free, and you don't mind spending a few months at the task, this can be worth it. But, that's about the only way it is.
Good luck!
