84 trans am carb to 85 tpi

Hey guys we did this swap in my friends car, and we switched the fuel pump, lines, motor, computer, and engine compartment harness. we wired the fuel pump to the relay on the firewall (forget which pin, but it is the one that has the oil pressure switch on it)

Our problem is:

after its been sitting for a while, it starts up, runs rough for a few seconds, and dies. with each start up after that it stays running shorter than before. we double checked that the plug wires were on right, play with the timing while trying to start it, made sure the vacuum lines were hooked up, etc.

This motor ran fine in the other car, and we didn't take out the distributer or anything really. we just disconnected the things we had to and put it right in.

One thing we noticed is that the donor car had a white connector under the dash near the ecm that has a pink wire, a pink/black wire, and a brown/white wire coming from it. the trans am doesn't have this. anyone think this is related to our running problem?

Thanks!
John

I don't know much about TPI, but I think you need a computer controlled distributor not a vacuum advance one.

thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that the stock carbed motors had computer controlled advance too. can anyone verify? I really need to get the car out of the bay at work because we were told to have it out about a week ago, and I'm afraid one of us might get fired.
