cam install in a NON-roller chevy block
Hello all.I have recently rebuilt 350 .030 over...for my older 305 camaro IROC.one question.i would like to install a roller cam GM ZZ#3 cam ,but i have noticed i no longer can use the cam thrust plate that was on my old 305 motor due to this new block is a NON-roller block which had a regular non-roller cam in it ...now I have heard about buttons,but which one should i use..and will the tolerance still be the same as far as cam movement front to back..also how can i tell if it will or will not hurt my distributor gear for lash.does any body make "retro" type roller cams to fit blocks that aren't roller type blocks??? this new block I have rebuilt is out of a 93 350 police car

Something doesn't sound right here. A '93 police car should have had a roller block (or roller ready block) in it. Are you sure you have a '93 block? The cam could have been changed to a flat-tappet, though.
You can get retrofit roller cams & lifters for non-roller blocks, but they are expensive. You have to have a very good reason for doing it - and simply wanting a roller cam probably isn't good enough. We went for decades with flat tappet cams, and lifters are better today than they ever have been before. On desktop dyno, my current cam made more power than the ZZ3 cam (which I had planned on using until I discovered my roller block had cracks in the lifter valley).

hey guys i am buildin a 350 onepeice rear main seal engine rigth now and i am wondering, do u have to have a cam button or thrust plate? its a hyd. flat tappet cam. t hanks
