383 Stroker Kit

I wanted to put a super charger on my 1988 IROC-Z Convertible, its got a 1991 Z-28 350 TPI Drivetrain. But after talking with some friends I think using a 383 Stroker Kit like the one from Summit that includes "everything" is a more cost effective way to go. Has anyone used one of these kits and how well do they work. Any costly side effects, etc.

I'm currently in the middle of building a stroker kit also, and the only thing that i've found is that you have to add the cost of the engine work to the stroker kit price to get an accurate price. I'm building mine from the ground up, with new everything, but I'm getting a stroker kit from sdpc2000.com for $900 altogether, but the cam and such aren't included. I've had estimates for the block boring and clearancing for around $800. So, that's nearly the cost of a centrifugal blower when added together....

just my two cents

One thought is how streetable you want your car to be. Because of how much and how quickly a blower ups the torque it can become an annoyance to drive, whereas a 383 will still have a lot of torque and hp, but will be much easier to drive on the street. Im currently having a 383 built up, and based on the parts ive been told that i could burn the tires through 1st, 2nd and 3d gears if i wanted to. But it is much easier to control a 383's power compared to a blowers.

Just my 2 cents

If I wouldn't have gone with the HotCam and new lifters, my 383 would have cost $1500 complete including machine work. With the roller goodies it cost $2000.

Mine is gonna cost around $1300, should have around 400hp I think he said. That is a complete rebuilb with stroker kit, but I am getting all machine work done for free.
