just got the engine...need some help
ok, i just landed a 350 out of an 87 gta. this is the long block only though...all the tpi stuff was sold, and i got the block. im going to go ahead and have it rebuilt before i drop it in.
my current motor is the 305 tpi.
the question is...besides injectors and computer chip, what else will i need to change over?
im hoping that a lot of the stuff from the 305 can be used on the new engine...but i've never done this swap before, so...
any help will be appreciated
thanks
mike

are u on a budget? if not i personaly would say go carb for two major reasons. well three actually.
1.easier to tune
2. no electrical hassel to mess with
3.easier to work on
justmy opinion tho many who dont agree but hey whatever floats your boat i guess

You'll also need a 350 Knock Sensor. The 350 also came with a different torque converter for the 700R4, but you probably don't need it.
BTW, I would keep the TPI because you have all the major parts already.

Yup, a basic 350 swap is easy, especially if you have an A4
1. 22# Injectors
2. Knock sensor
3. 350/A4 memcal
The rest bolts up.
You could go carb, but for the ease of the swap and your use of the car...

what is the memcal-is that the chip?
somebody said i need a torque converter from a 350 ??? ive heard that a 4 cyl S10 torque converter will give you a higher stall speed? i dont want to keep the auto, but 1 thing at a time!
and on the knock sensor-does the 305 have one, and will the 350 sensor bolt right on?
carb does sound like it'd be easier, but i've never had to tune a carb, plus this will be more of a challenge, and if i can do it, then i'll be :hail: myself
again,
thanks for any help

Yup, the memcal is the chip. A straight swap will give you most of the changes that you need. A custom burnt prom will take full adtantage of the new setup, but necessary at this point. Is this a standard 350 with stock heads and cam?
A 305 knock sensor is different than the 350. Just get a 350 knock sensor for the same year car that you have from the parts store. It will hook up with no modifications.
I have also heard that the torque convertor is different for a 350. It will work just fine, the stall speed is slightly differnt. Don't worry, your trans will bolt up just fine. If you are planning on changing the trans at some point don't worry about getting a 350 or S10 version, it's not worth the hassle/money.
