I have a 1986 Z28 and I want to swap a Pontiac 400 into the car. I have the sbc 305 pulled out. I also have a ford 9" rearend I want to install. The car is an automatic and I was wanting to put a manual 4 speed in. Has anyone done this? If so could someone let me know what all I need to change. The sbc 305 was a 4bbl carb powered engine. Also I need to find out where I can get some parts for the 400. I need all the engine acc. brackets, power steering pump and brackets, and the pulleys. The block came out of a 73 Firebird, I have 4X heads on it. I have dome pistons in it and it is bored .30 over. Lunati 292/490 cam and stock valves and valve springs. I also have a toker II intake and a holley 750 4160 with a set of small tube headers. Will all of this fit in the car? Will I have to go with stock exhaust manifolds or can I use the headers. I know that it will not fit under the stock hood. I have a 4" cowl hood on the way. If any one can help me out I would appericiate it.

 

Just form what Ive read here, and presonal experience, Ill give you a few pointers. stock maniflods and thos headers will more than likely not clear. you will need custom(call hedman, they deal with a lot of custom) BOP motors are plentiful in yards down here.the accessories should all be found in junkyards. the alternator is probably the old delco one wire style, and the PS pump is probably the same submerged style. all of your intake should clear just fine with the cowl hood. run a search, you are not the first to propose such a swap. Ive seen rocket motors in these cars, as well as 6.6s
