please need advice on 305 swap
please need advice on 305 swap
Ok i have an 84 TA with a 305 L69 with a rod kncok. I had replace the carb and intake with Edelbrock Performer pieces. I also have a wrecked 88 GTA with a TPI 305. I have very little money to do a swap at best $300. I orignally thought of swapping over TPI and all wiring. My computer in my car has fried twice the wiring throughout the car is sketchy. Previous owner was a hacker LOL. My friends keep telling me to take the bottom end of the TPI and bolt my intake on it. Oh yeah did i mention the TPI has 158,000 miles on it. I think my biggest issue is that i don't really want a 305 want 350 but cant' afford. Please lets here some opinions on my options and what you guys think would be easiest or best.
Thanks

If it wasn't for the 158k, I'd say it's a toss-up between the simple long-block changeout and the full TPI swap. If the '88 has had decent maintence, then you may still be okay.
I'd say go ahead and do the change to get you on the road for now. Whether you just do the carb (less work), or full TPI conversion (has economy and driveability advantages) is up to you. Save your nickels & dimes for a future 350, either way.
