383 stroker crank

i bought a used 350 tpi engine for cheap from a friend that im having completely stripped down and im probably only going to use the block and the bare heads, i want to get a stroker crank for it but im not sure which would work best and would still be economically feasible. i heard someone say their 383 stroker blew up so they had to make a 388, is this common? and what connecting rods, pistons, etc would you reccommend? thanks

I would suggest you get an entire stroker rotating assembly, available through Summit, Jegs, Powerhouse, etc.

383 = 350 block with 3.75" stroke crank, bored .030" over (standard rebuild overbore). 388 is same with .060" overbore, which is typically the max a bore can be safely bored.

383's will last a long time if built with good parts. Fellow racer here has a 7-year old 383 in his '57 Nomad, told us recently he's put over 850 runs on the engine. Adjusted the valves once - he thinks...

enginekits.com has a couple kits for real cheap...i think 500 bucks for a rotating assembly for a 383...gets alittle bit pricier tho if you want forged parts and what not.

what do you guys know about "hardcore racing"? i seen a rotating assembly through them for like 1800 i think... would that be a good idea? or should i get a forged crank from summit and get rods and pistons and bearings from other places/companies? any suggestions about how to get this 383 goin cheaply but effectively would be greatly appreciated.

if u wanna keep the price down i saw a add in i think super chevy that was a 377 stroker kit. its the same as a 383 but it has standard bore instead of .30 over. that would at least save u the cost of boring it out. dont know what kinda proformance diff would be between .30 but not sure. i wanna say the kit was like 650? they also had 383 388 kits for the same price. sorry but ill try to find the add here after while
