fuel pump
fuel pump
Okay, I have an 87 TA that was formerly and LG4. Now it has a splendid little 350 in it. The problem is the damn 87 T/A's came with two fuel pumps one on the motor and one in the tank. I decided instead of the afpr to run a mechanical at the block. Now can I use an LG4 fuel pump on the block without worries or no? If I can't I need to know what kind of fuel pump I can run at the block, it needs to be a 3 way, with the tank line, carb line, and return line. Let me know the part numbers I can use so I can pick one up at "The Zone" or something.
Thanks
Thanks
Okay, well right now the car is at the shop getting a couple of holes in the block plugged, gauge openings. Right now the motor has a 2 port fuel pump, just OEM replacement for a 72 Monte Carlo that has a 350. The shop is just 2 or 3 miles from my house, since i have by fuel return line plugged right now I am wondering if I can just drive it home and then switch to the 3 port. Would this be okay or do I risk blowing out the carb?

No problem. When the two-port outlet pressure gets up to max, it justs quits pumping. The purpose of the return in the 3-port is to keep the fuel circulating so it doesn't pick up as much heat, not to bleed off excess pressure.
You might have been a little happier with the in-tank and 3-port mechanical combo. But, I'm running the 3-port mechanical (AC replacement from Checker) with absolutely no problems.
Did you remove the in-tank pump? The mechanical can probably pull through it, but it'll just make it that much harder for it.

Great, well I have a OEM 3 port fuel pump for a 305, shouldn't have a problem running my car with it. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to worry about excess pressure because the electric pump is still wired up. The reason why I was concerned was because I don't really want to get a flatbed to bring it home or pay the shop it is at to install a fuel pump. And I don't really have enough time to trailer it over myself. Thanks a lot guys!
