Need Some Help
:hail: http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Chev...V8s/ho454.html
Can I possibly put that engine in my 1987 Trans Am with a 305 5.0L V8 Fuel Injection? Would I have to change the transmission(stock)? What about the computer stuff? Also my T/A has the T-tops so will it be too much torque? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I want to put a good engine in my car, this one appealed to me the most, but I'll go with a 350 if I have to. Please help me out guys, thanks.

Welcome aboard.
That engine is a big block. The engine mounts and tranny bolt pattern will match, that's about it.
Computer? Forget it. Exhaust? Big headaches. Emissions? Only if you like getting laughed at.
For a "specialty" car that doesn't see regular street use, it might be okay. For about the same money, for a lot less weight, you could build a 383 or even 427 small block that would most likely outrun that 454.
You'll still have to make TPI mods, which will add up. But, SBC's have come a long way in the displacement and power areas in the last few years.

Yeah that's kinda what I figured. Well like I said I'd go with a 350 if it would be a lot easier. See I just want to keep it as simple as possible since I'm a beginner in the whole "mechanics" thing I guess you could say. But if anyone knows of a good engine for an 87 Trans Am that will give me some good power without having to do anything drastic like change the transmission and all that stuff too, let me know, I'd appreciate the help. Oh, also, emissions doesn't matter where I live. They don't do tests in my county.
