Fixed most probs, but have more after motor swap...
Hey guys,
If anybody read my previous post, I couldn't get my starter to trun the engine. Well it turned out everything was hooked up correctly, it's just that I forgot the ground wire for the starter, duh. Also fixed all my leaks.
Well now I have 2 new problems.
First: When I first fixed the starter it turned the engine over, now I try to start it, the starter gear and flywheel mesh together, but the starter can't turn the engine over. I checked the starter bolts, it's on there tight and all the elctrical connections are good. What could this be?
Second: When I started the engine it backfired through the carb. I'm convinced that it's my timing but can anybody tell me how to set the timing if your engine is not running (I set it according to the Haynes)
Thanks for the help,
-Max

heres the deal with the timing. You may have your timing set 180 degrees off. Check that your on the compressioon stroke by sticking your finger in the #1 sparkplug hole and feeling for compression. If you feel pressure building as you maually turn the engine (w/ a breaker bar), alighn the notch on the harmonic balancer w/ the tdc mark and insert your distributer w/ the rotor alighned w/ the number one point in the cap. The distributer will turn a little so check to make sure iut is still alighned.
Your not the only one who may have problems, my new engine started right up but it seems to have lubrication problems... Thaught that swap went a little too smoothly
