Cam Question, Need answer ASAP!

Ok I have a 89 Firebird the motor is stock, its the LB9 305 TPI, 5-speed if that helps anything?...

I have a few questions:

I want to know...does that motor have a hydraulic roller cam?

and I found a 350 LT1 cam that I can get for cheap, its a hydraulic roller cam... will that work with my 305??

and is it worth it to put it in.

Thanks alot,

Joel

Yes, according to my Haynes manual all f-bodies after 1987 came with hydraulic roller cam, lifters, etc. My 1987 Trans Am has the rollers

Yes yours is a hyraulic roller cam.
Yes it'll work in your 305.
No, I dont think its worth it. You could get some 1.6 rockers and achieve the same thing, and its a heck of alot easier to do. 1.6's and the LT1 cam might not be a bad idea, but if I was going that route I'd just get a cam with more lift.

well i can probably get the cam for like 25 bucks, do you it would just be a good investment for the future or what? cuz i plan on getting a 355 here in about a month, my uncles freind has one to sell me for 200 bucks, theres nothing wrong with it, it just sat for 2 years, and there is no accesories..

Yes, because you could turn around and sell it for more than $25 and make a profit.

The 'worth it' part I was referring to is more time than money. You'll need more in parts to swap that cam in, but its not easy and will take a fair amount of time and effort for IMO a minimal change.

Selling it for more isnt a bad idea though.
