I have an 88 Camaro with the turdy 2.8 and 700-R4, and I want to swap in a 355 SB with a 700-R4. I have the motor I just need to build it. I want to rip out all the computer crap, I was wondering if I have to leave it in to run a 700-R4. I have a 3.42 rear end and I want to know if it'll hold the 400hp I'll be making. I need help with everything. Thanks.

 

do a search on this board for v-6 tov-8 swap..there is tons of info on the subject.
The ecm will only control you lockup converter...you can work around this. Just about everything attached to your 2.8 will have to be replaced....motor mounts...fuel system/ lines moved..v-8 radiator...brake lines moved..new exhaust..v-8 tranny...on and on.
Best to have a v-8 donor car, or a friend at a junkyard.

 

get a haynes manual it's pretty good at showing the wiring harness. on mine the wiring harness that comes thru the passenger fender is the computer stuff that you don't need. the starter and dist harness you'll keep. be patient on the motor mount change. the rear will live if you don't launch it with slicks.i did allot of things to get it running and have changed things as money and time allows. 3kids and a wife, house, 2 other vehicles
