86 305 carb to 350

I searched for this topic and all I found was 305tbi/tpi to 350, so I'm sorry if this has been asked way to many times. I've found a real good deal on a 86 T/A but its a carb 305. What would I need to swap to a 350 from a 87-92 f-body(l98, I believe) Its an auto. Thanks

How much are you thinking about spending on the engine?

Well, if you're thinking about getting a brand new 350 (about $1580), you might want to have a look at this post:

I'm going to make this swap next weekend.

Aaron, it's been discussed on the carb board. Basically, the CC carb doesn't care that it's a 350. For insurance, you can put a 350 knock sensor and module on it, but the only real problems I've heard with that involve TPI engines.

It's rather disappointing that the Caprice crate doesn't have provision for the mechanical fuel pump. You could probably have a machine shop fix that for you, but the block would have to be disassembled, and the cost would probably floor you (surpised they machined the mount face, wonder why they did that?).

The Goodwrench crate engine discussed in fly's other post would basically bolt in to an '86 (except for the flexplate - '86 has one-piece rear main seal type). '87-later would bring in issues about intake bolt patterns, but not a big thing to overcome.

I think that's where they mounted the fuel filter.

An '86 might already have an electric pump in the tank, so it might not be such a big deal.

When I'm done with the swap, I'll post a list on that thread of all the parts I needed and how much they cost.

Mine didn't. Did have the blower on the carb, though. I believe '87 was the only year they all had electric, earlier it was a dealer-install option (although some have said L69's had both electric and mechanical).
