What else to buy?

What else would I have to buy and what could I use thats already on my car to swap this engine, http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=120&pid=115 , into an 87 formula with the T5 tranny and stock carbed 305. The only engine swap I've done was on an old Talon TSi but I had a complete donor car so I'm new at this. Thanks in advance

One question: Emissions?

If so, you're in for some fun. That engine has Vortec heads, which require a special manifold (not the one listed at the bottom of the page). Those heads do NOT have exhaust cross-over passages, so in order for the EGR valve to work, you need to plumb exhaust gases up to the intake manifold cross-over passage. I believe the EGR Vortec Performer is on the order of $175. The only caveat is that I don't recall having heard someone who has gotten that engine through a strict emissions visual inspection and sniffer.

Once you're over that hurdle, you're in pretty good shape. Your carb, distributor, flywheel, sensors, etc., will all transfer over from your LG4 to the HO. The computer will handle it just fine. You could go for a 350 knock sensor and module, but that doesn't seem to be a critical item on carbed cars.

You should get a completely new exhaust system, though. Headers, cat, cat-back. And new air cleaner - that single-snorkel job is a performance killer.

If you decide to go non-computer controlled, the intake they list at the bottom of the page will work. But, you'll need a new carb and distributor, which will cost you a lot more than the EGR setup would. Besides, if this is a daily driver, you can't beat computer control.

You could spend a lot of money makin your car emissions legal. Or....you could walk into a junkyard, look like youre browsing, and scrape off a current emissions sticker from another car's window. Most cops look at the color of the sticker to see if its current. I havent heard of any cops checking the VIN number of the sticker, although i guess its possible. Good luck.
