well i cracked my block and my engine is toast. i have been looking at new cars recently then today the ex husband of a lady who works with my mom says he has a 305 engine out of a monte carlo ss that he will drop in for me for 200$. Now i know zero about cars so this is gonna sound dumb really dumb probably. But its from a 1988 ss am i looking at gaining or losing ne horses? the stock engine was a a 305 v8 tbi. sorry if this is like the stupid question ever.

 

Well let's put it this way. Does it really matter?

For $200 that's the deal of the century. You couldn't ever get a shop to even TALK to you about doing that for less than $200.

Right now you have a car that doesn't run. You can have another ENGINE put in, and have your car running for $200. DO IT!!!!!

You can always build up another motor to drop in later. Maybe a 350, 383, or 406. Heck, even if you can find a 305 block for cheap, you can just use the rotating parts outta the engine you have that's cracked.
