Well i finally pulled that little puke of a moter out of my 83 camaro in an attempt to fix a major oil leak. But the 2 peice main seal is discontinued, both from gm, and canadian tire, and i'll have to rig a one piece in there (don't know if it's do-able)
In addition to the oil leak, i also have to fix a bunch of other stuff to get it to run reliably. (carb, dist., y-pipe, etc) sum of expenses should come in around a minimum of $650 CDN
Now here's the idea. I also have a spare 305 from my Z28 hanging around, My thought is to find a non-cc carb and distributer (iether on e-bay or at my uncles freinds shop=tons of old carbs etc) and put that in. I have all the hardware (ie mounts etc) to do this
Problems:
1. I don't have a transmission with the 305. There is a 5 speed that will bolt up in my shed that i may not use in the future, but my car isn't stick now, so i assume i'd have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, mount a manual pedal assembly, as well as the clutch master cylinder and etc. Also i'm not sure if the tansmission is in good condition (never driven it)
The engine now has a brand new clutch and pressure plate on it from previous owner, and i have a bellhousing and appropriate driveshaft.
Would i be better off buying a used T350 or 700R4? In that case, is the gear selector compatable?
2. I am not willing to rewire my neons, stereo/amp, and security system, meaning the interior wiring has got to stay generally intact. I can run more wires, but i don't want to redo everything (reason for going non computer controlled)
3. I'm unsure as to wether or not the wiring as far as starting and charging system, will be compatible. Will i be able to make the dummy light's work? (no tach)
So should i spend the repair money to move on the 305, or just fix the 2.8 and put it back in??
Please post any tips you may have to help me out

Oh yea, I also have the y-pipe, cat, and muffler from the 350 left. And since i plan to change to headers and dual exaust on the Z28 anyways, I also have the complete stock '84 Z28 system available if needed.
what's wrong with the trans in the car now? The 305 ought to bolt up to it just fine, eh? You will need some better springs for your front suspension to hold up the weight of the v8. Should be pretty straightforward swap otherwise. You can find a flexplate for a v8 and a converter too in a yard somewhere (or your uncle may have one laying around) or even use your v6 converter which should give you a higher stall speed. Heck if have all the parts, v8 is the way to go.
