TBI ECM with Carb 383?
The subject pretty much says it all. I have an LO3 now, and I eventually want to put in a 383 stroker with a 6-speed. What all would I need to do to the computer? Thanks

you'll either need to get a no CC distributer or reprogam the 305 prom or your timing will be WEAK.
SES light will of course be on too. But it will run fine.

Hows the stock TBI fuel pump donig with your 383?
I just put a BUILT 383 in my 92 firebird (had tbi) and im wondering how well the fuel pump will work. I have a holley blue pump i might put inline to help out.
Fuel pressure set to 7 lbs.. any idea how much horsepower this can support? everyone guesses, but i wonder if anyone has an accurate idea from experience.. I had a 355 and a blower and i never felt like the tbi fuel pump was holding me back.

Shane, if you're talking to me and asking about my fuel pump - I had pulled it earlier and am running the 255l/hr Walbro. It was a plug-n-play gig that had to be done regardless as my TBI pump died.

Hey thanks. So, do you think it's a good plan? All I need to do is just keep the computer for the fuel pump? I'm 17, and know, next to nothin about car computers. Do you think I could learn? Or would I have to have it done?

Sure it's a good plan, but you're going to need someone with a bit of knowledge to pull your computer controlled distributor and replace it with a simple vacuum advance HEI type. The computer doesn't actually control the fuel pump - but too many people just tear into the thing ripping out wires because they can, not because they should, then have a spaz when the fuel pump doesn't come on. So just leave all of the wires there, just zip tie them out of the way. Once you've got it running with the carb and non-computer controlled distributor, then just tuck away the wires out of sight. There really is no need to just wantonly cut the stuff out of there.

But you can shed at least 5-10 lbs. by taking all that crap outta there.

Seriously, just leave it there. It's not hurting anything. I plan on leaving mine there so if the Smog Police ever come to my town, I can put the old engine back in, hook all that crap back up to the car, and....
SELL IT!!!!!
