Change 305 to 350
Change 305 to 350
Hi!
I'd like to change my 305 tpi to 350 tpi if its possibble.
Has anyone done this before or I'm the first fool who wants to do it?
I checked ebay for 350 engines, but there are lots of it, and I don't really know which ones gonna fit to my car.
I mean with the tpi setup.
Can u guys gine me some advise what should I buy?
THX

Don't worry about the motor fitting because the blocks are both the same size and everything connects in the same place. The only thing you have to worry about it the ECM programming and the volume of your injectors. More cubic inches need more fuel and air. Also be sure your transmission is in a condition to take the extra torque of a 350. As far as the block. Trade the old one in. Use it as a core.

Depending on the performance you are looking for, you may not even want to swap for a 350. I am getting 325hp out of my 305, but it is carbureted. My car was a carbed car originally. 1984 Trans AM. Instead of doing a whole new 350, you could port your heads and use some bigger valves, get an intake and get a bigger cam. I just happen to know some people so I got my hands on a newer 305, but depending on the condition of your engine, it will work just the same. My original motor had burned up bearings so it owuld have needed machine work, possibly a crank. I didn't upgrade to a 350 because there was no 350 offered in 1984. I wanted the car to be original and not be the stock 190hp. Explore all your options before you spend all the bucks, unless you just really want a 350.
