305 S/R Torquers VS factory 305 head build-up ?

Hello All not sure which board this question fits on,

I have a low mileage LB9 in a '91 Formula (see pic). I am planning this winter's build-up AFPR, cam, heads and headers. I haven't got the heads figured out yet. There are two obvious options get after-market or build the factory heads.

So I was considering buying some 305 S/R Torquers from World Products. But the local shop tells me they can punch out my 305 heads with valves 2.00/1.6 and with port, polish and 3 angle get another 40-50HP out of my factory heads (?!?!?) for alot less than the SR Torquers will cost.

I know results with heads has alot to do with cam and exhaust. My exhaust is hi-flow all the way and will include headers, the cam will be around 210/218 .470/.480.

My last dyno test (corrected x 1.17) put the engine at 260hp and 336lbs torque. I am trying to get to 1hp per cube.

Has ANYONE had experience with 305 S/R Torquers ? Do you recommend them ?

thx in advance for your comments,
RP.

You can work over stock heads. Extensive porting, replacement of the stock press-in rocker studs with screw-in, guide shaving, etc., are highly recommended. 2.00/1.60 valves are probably bigger than needed, 1.94/1.50 are adequate unless you're really building a monster (and 1hp/CI doesn't qualify). You may need to shave them to true them up, guides are typically worn. You are starting with high production-quality parts, so don't be surprised if half-way through the project some problem crops up.

The S/R Torquer 305 heads are high quality, low-quantity castings. They have screw-in studs already, upgrading to better springs and valves when you order is a simple and inexpensive improvement. They do benefit from bowl work, and respond very well to full porting. They also have revised chambers over the stock heads, for a little better flame travel and flow.

By the time you do valves, porting, and all the other required machine work to the stock heads, you'll probably have spent as much as you would on the Worlds, and won't have quite as good of a product when you're done. The stock heads aren't a bad option, especially if you're doing all the porting work yourself to save money, but I faced the same choices and went with the S/R option. I don't regret it, and Desktop Dyno has me well over 1HP/CI at the flywheel (never had it on an actual dyno).
