2.8 to V8
2.8 to V8
I'm 16 yr old and just bought my first 89 camaro. It has a 2.8 V6, IT SUCKS!! I want to put in a 350 or a 383 V8. I've been told that i need to replace the tranny(it's a manual) and rear end for the car to run, is this true? Also should i replace the computer or go with a carb. model? Please send any advice here or my e-mail, the_raven422@yahoo.com. Thanks a bunch.

Welcome aboard.
Yes, you need to replace the tranny with a V8 model. No, you don't need to replace the rear end (or drveshaft), but that's about the end of the good news.
If you have emissions, you don't have any choice but to go with a computer system that is your year or newer. Either way, the list of parts that you have to replace is so long that the best way to go about this is with a donor parts car that has a factory V8.
Unless this car has some sentimental value (1st car is one qualifier), this extensive, expensive project is rarely worth it. I did mine before I know about this site, and had I known what I know now, I wouldn't have gotten the car in the first place.
