zz4 power estimates
zz4 power estimates
what would a ZZ4 with fastburn heads, a hotcam kit, 1.6 rr's, miniram and 24 lb injectors be capable of? (of course we'd add in hooker supercomps, a mufflex 4 inch exhaust, 2400 stall convertor, rebuild on the 700R4, 3.73's as well)
Just deciding if I want to take my 92 Z28 with 21K miles into the deeper darker performance levels. (ie. similar to my 2000 tahoe 4dr 2wd thats running 13.8's on street tires at 5400 lbs without me pulling the valvecovers, and daily driven 25K miles a year) the 305 tpi, 700r4 and 2.73's really don't get the job done anymore, even my truck is faster. (and embarassed a friend's 2002 5 spd mustang GT.)

I have the same setup! Only i am using the Edelbrock headers and i am going with a 2800 stall with a 3.73 Moser 12 bolt. I was told from TPIS that i could expect about 470-480hp and around 435ft/lbs to the fly. The set up should see around 6000rpms i was told. I am learning how to do my own chips too! I can not give you any hard data since i just painted the engine bay this weekend and hopefully by next week the motor will be in. It will not be running right until Nov. atleast though with school and two jobs! Any questions i might be able to help you out with, just ask. The block is good for around 500hp i believe. I was also told that i could go with a bit larger cam too! good luck
A ZZ4 with Fastburn heads is a Fastburn 385 (as in 385 horsepower). GM says those Fastburn heads are worth 30 hp. Add the HOT cam and the rockers and GM says you are good for 425 horsepower. (All of this is available in the GM Performance Parts Catalog). Add the rest of the items that you are talking about and you may be somewhere in excess of that.

I don't see why not. You would have to run a low boost b/c the internals are only good for like 550hp and torque, from what i have been told. Its like putting it on a stock motor. If you would want to run more boost, simply build up the internals. If i were to do that though, i would stroke it to either a 383 or maybe a 396. I would love to do it in the future, maybe a few years down the road when i get more money! lol And then slap on an ATI unit just for ****s and giggles. My goal still stands at 11s n/a with the zz4 alone, we'll see. Some earlier zz4s came with cast cranks i think and later ones, like mine came with forged. Someone correct me if i am wrong. Later

I am almost positive that it is exactly the same as the zz4, only it has the fastburn heads. Never heard of it being a zz5 but it is the motor i have. Thats where i got my numbers from. I asked the guys over at Scoggin-Dickey where i got it. Last year it was $3995, now its like $4195 through them plus shipping, which was like $150. If you have done a search i am sure you came across some of my threads. I am running the fb385 ,hot cam, 1.6rr, miniram III, as well as other things to complement the motor. I have had the motor since last October and have been saving parts for it. I was originally going with a Demon carb i had picked up but i decided to return it and stick with the fuel injection. So i have been saving and spending! It is in the car now, and if all goes well this week with the weather, i can work on it and hope to start it this weekend. It is so close to starting. I'll post a thread about it with pictures when its running and all plugged up. Talk to you later
