2.8V6 to 5.7V8 questions
i had a 92 camaro with a 2.8 V6 in it. Recently i traded a guy my engine and 150$ for a 350 out of a 1990 Z28. I got everything attatched to the engine . I know i need new motor mounts, is there anything else ill need? also i have a T-5 tranny in it. What can i do to make it fit to the 350, is it possible? i havent tried it. will it fit as is, need new bellhousing, or just whole new tranny? thanks
I am in the same boat. I have a 92 Camaro that I am in the provess of taking out the V6 and Trans. I have been told that the stock 5 speed is not going to fit the new 350. Bellhousing does not match up. Also I have been told that the horsepower from the bigger engine will push that T-5 to the point of breaking. Numerous people have suggested to me, that I find a T-56 6 speed for the 350. You will need to get a new torque arm, drive shaft, and crossmember of course. I am sure that if you browse the message boards, you will probably get some more ideas. Let us know how your swap goes. I am taking plenty of pics as I go.
Best of luck!

well the T-5 came with the stock 350 too, i was thinking maybe instead of doing all the other work i could take the bellhousing off, put one on off of a V8 T5 and it would match up i beleive im not 100% sure, because no one knows and ive never tried it. Im on a tight budget as is so im gonna go rip a bellhousing off of a V8 T-5 and tell you guys how it went

The T-5 never came with a 350. Only the 305.
You can use a 6-cylinder T-5 with a V8, if you use a 6-cylinder clutch disc. You'll end up with the super-wide crappy 6-cylinder gear ratios of course. You will have to have a V8 bell housing.
You'll need a radiator; some wiring; maybe a ECM; possible a fuel pump and some lines; and no doubt some other stuff too. That would be a start.
Easiest, probably cheapest way to do it in the long run, is to get a V8 car to strip everything you need off of.

From what i'm reading it sounds like you have a v6 t5 and a 350. Your best bet would be to get a t56. They're expensive though. I would most definately suggest getting a t5 out of a v8 and not trying to use the v6 one. Its only rated to handle a 305 but i've heard of manypeople who its worked for. You will have all kinds of problems with the v6. The input shafts are different so you would have to use the 9in v6 clutch with a 10.4 v8 pressure plate and flywheel. I'v done this and it doesn't last long. The driveshaft torque arm and crossmember will still work. You need to change the front springs to handle the added weight. of the 350. You need a larger radiator. The only way to do this swap cheap is with a donor car. Find some poor kid who got drunk and totaled his car and needs money to pay lawyers and fines. I got my donor car for $300. It had everything I needed minus radiator. If all you have is a motor you will get nickle and dimed to death.
